Many of you have seen Dr. Andrew Weil on PBS and on Amazon as many of Dr. Weil's books on wellnes and integrative medicine were huge hits. Dr. Weil has teamed up with Nature's Path to create a line of food bars that are organic, gluten free, vegan-friendly, and contain no genetically modified foods. They also contain no cereal which is a big deal for a company like Nature's Path who is known primarily for their cereals.
The Weil Food Bars come in the following flavors: Chia Razz, Banana Manna, Goji Moji, Chocolada Walnut and Pistachi-Oh!.
In the picture above is the Pistachi-Oh! bar. I tried that one because I love pistachios. The nut chunks you see are pistachios and cashews. The other ingredients in this food bar are dates, coconut, lemon juice, and spices, all organic ingredients.
When I do food reviews, I like to take pictures of what the food actually looks like so people can see what it looks like before you try it. Most food bars pretty much look the same, but what the heck, who doesn't like to look at food pics?
Taste wise, I'd say that this bar is okay. I'd give it a 7 out of 10 (10 being the best). It wasn't tasteless but it also wasn't as sumptuous as I've tried in other organic food bars. The marketing emphasizes the moistness of the bar and I'd say that it's semi-moist. It's not tough but I've had moister bars.
What I do like about the Weil bars is that everything in the bar is made out of organic ingredients. I have personally used many of Dr. Weil's principles from his books and found them very useful and thus have high regard for his brand. And lastly, Dr. Weil donates all of his after-tax profits from royalties from the sales of these bars to his Weil Foundation whose mission is "to support integrative medicine by funding the
training of physicians and other practitioners, public education,
research, innovations in patient care, and policy reform." I'm all for that!
