In American culture, many of us have a tendency to shovel in food fast and then chew less than 10 times before swallowing and shoveling in the next mouthful of food. How many of us take the time to savor our food, enjoy the textures and flavors, and chew so that the food has time to break down into smaller pieces? Typically, it's dine and dash.
There are a great deal of health benefits if you take just a little bit more time to chew your food more. In Macrobiotics, one of the key principles is to chew about 50-100 times basically until the food is practically liquid before swallowing. Now, that may a bit much for most people, but chewing more than a handful of times can provide a great deal of benefits. This video will further show how chewing more can benefit you like helping to relieve acid reflux and looking more youthful. Personally, I found that when I ate slower and chewed my food more, my stomach felt less bloated after finishing the meal.
