You know how they say you shouldn't go grocery shopping when you're hungry. I will add a correlative to that and say that it is really not wise to go to Whole Foods when you are ravished AND have the craving dwarfs with ya; Salty, Sweety, Crunchy, Creamy, Bready, practically the whole crew if you know what I mean.
I made this mistake last week and voila behold $49.44 in like 15 minutes. I'm going for the gold in the Whole Paycheck Olympics. The bulk of that cost was in the pre-made foods because I was feeling lazy and didn't want to cook. I just wanted to consume ASAP.
Again, when you're shopping with the tummy glasses, there's not much logic in charge. Normally, I've become an expert at shopping at Whole Foods cheaply, and YES! it can be done. But, it takes time to slow down and search what's on sale, and to buy what you really need not what the cravings goggles want. And, I only live 2 miles from the store so I can go whenever.
So, here's what the cravings dwarfs got:
- Salty: Pretzels and Shoestring Fries
- Sweety:Vegan German Chocolate Cookie from bakery and on sale these pumpkin Oreo cookies that were on sale for 79 cents. Yogurt covered pretzels. Jelly and 2 sodas. The teas have low to no sugar, so that's good, yes!
- Crunchy: ditto on the pretzels and cookies
- Creamy: Peanut Butter
- Bready: Bagel
In hot foods, there was this Crab Chowder which they don't have all the time so I HAD to get it because my food famished brain was convinced that they'd run out before I left the store. The chowdah is divine though!
I always get salad stuff because I eat mixed greens with arugula and spinach like every day. I do this because my body operates better when I have the mixed greens. But, salad bar can run pretty high quickly because you're just dumping in the box.
Then, I HAD to have this Spicy Tuna Roll. Yes, I HAD to have it. Because the gastric forces took over and played Jedi mind tricks on me. Steph you must HAVE...Yes, I must HAVE.
In the other hot food box, I got a huge piece of fried chicken breast which I didn't snap because well it's not that exciting. And since I blog at home, sometimes a quickie frozen meal is just faster and easier so I got the Kashi Chicken Florentine.
Because I was in sticker shock, I made all this food last for nearly 4 days. I stretched it out and how. Next time, we will make a wiser choice and go to the WF after we've eaten. That store sure is fun though, and I love that they let you sample stuff. Ah! My home away from home.
Have you been to Whole Foods hungry with the craving dwarfs?
