If you want a good place to ease into vegetarian and vegan food, Source in San Francisco is an excellent restaurant to visit. It's located down the street from Zynga headquarters. With all the plant-based foods at Source, it should be the digital restaurant in Farmville. It was my first visit to Source, and was a spontaneous decision after hanging out at the New Living Expo with a friend all day. Lots of walking made me hungry.
In the photo above is Source's Tri Color Quinoa Salad. It's so pretty and amazingly tasty! I could literally feel the nutrients doing their thing in my body. Felt wonderful. I was mesmerized by the vibrant red color. I've never seen Quinoa like that before.
To achieve that red look, all they did was mix in pureed beets with the Quinoa. I tried it at home later and I got the same look.
Brilliant!
Source has a menu that reads like a typical diner with appetizers, burgers, pizza, sandwiches, entrees, dessert and beer. The only thing different about this place is that the food mostly comes from plants. A bulk of the menu is vegan and all of the vegetarian dishes can be made vegan. There are also plenty of gluten-free options as well.
Here is their Green Curry Vegetables with Eryngii Scallops over Quinoa. They are not real scallops but ones made out of the eryngii mushroom which eerily has almost the same texture as real scallops. I really enjoyed the bounty of vegetables on this dish and the curry was mild both in flavor and heat.
What blew my mind was an entirely vegan dessert menu. I almost never see that anywhere. The choice is typically always sorbet, or how about some sorbet. Next time I go to Source, I'm trying a vegan pizza and dessert.
