I'm always on the lookout for new greens to try in my daily leafy salad. And yes, I eat at least one bowl of leafy greens everyday usually for breakfast because it's nutrient dense, full of life force, helps set the eating tone for the rest of the day, and helps me stay regular.
This weekend I discoverd organic Red Bore Kale from Tomatero Organic Farm at the Alemany farmers market which is the very first farmers market in the state of California.
Immediately, I was captivated by the deep rich red purple color of the leaves. You know how I love purple food. The color reminded me of royalty. This kale is curly and I find it best to eat chopped up into smaller bites. The Red Bore is slightly more on the bitter side of kale but I mixed it with some arugula so that helped balance the flavor. I loved it!
The Red Bore would be a great side vegetable to go with something on the sweeter side like orange chicken or lemony sole.
I also found these red jalapenos. I didn't know that jalapenos came in red. It's a fun way to add some hat to your green salad. I loved the jalapenos that were a red green color combination. So festive!
Did you try any new vegetables last week?
